Horizon Charter School Offers Much Needed Education Option for Parents

GREATER SACRAMENTO REGION- The COVID-19 pandemic and the national and state emergency declarations and orders responding to the pandemic have caused and continue to cause considerable challenges for schools. In anticipation of the COVID-19 student vaccine requirement, many schools have chosen to implement vaccine mandate requirements with deadlines that are earlier than those proposed by the state. Here at Horizon Charter School ("HCS") “we want to ensure that we make health and safety a priority by following the timelines suggested by the CDPH and the CDC.

These health agencies expect that required vaccinations for COVID-19 will not begin until the following school year. Therefore, HCS will not be requiring vaccinations at this time,” shares Jennifer Ramos, HCS COVID-19 Intervention Specialist. As a result, HCS has opened mid-year enrollment for TK-12 grades, and is not currently requiring the COVID-19 Vaccine for the tuition-free Independent Study program, as well as the tuition-free in person K-8 Lincoln Montessori site. Space permitting, this option brings relief to many families who are seeking alternatives, due to their concerns about the current requests their neighborhood schools are rolling out.

Covering Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Nevada, Sutter, & Yuba counties, HCS, a public charter school, prides itself as a school that offers quality options for its students, and who partners heavily with their students’ parents to help students realize their greatest potential and success, which reflects the school’s “Students First” philosophy. Furthermore, HCS recognizes the effects of COVID-19 and the accelerated policies of other districts.

With many unknowns during the pandemic, HCS has cleared the path for allowing mid-year enrollment for those looking to enroll in a free non-traditional public school. In addition to its academics, Ramos adds, “We do pride ourselves on other non-invasive effective measures in combating the spread of COVID-19 that reflects in our students’ and staff’s health. Horizon’s safe and inviting qualities can feel like an extension of your home where your student can achieve their goals from registration to graduation.”
